There were only 2 participants for this challenge but I'm so happy that someone joined me. According to random.org the winner is #1 Heather. Check your mailbox for a copy of International Islamic Recipes. Congratulations. Insha Allah (God willing) you and your family got something out of this.
For those who weren't quite prepared I will offer a second chance at winning with the same rules; cook something everynight from scratch for one week and post the pictures and recipes on your blog and add the link here. The same prize will be offered.

ooo ahh :) when does the 2nd challenge start?
ReplyDeleteAnytime this month ,just make sure you do it for a week ;)
ReplyDeleteI think I'll try it. I cook a lot anyway, but just thinking of a week of cooking makes me cringe. It wasn't a bad challenge, just not the most "exciting" challenge for those who hate to be in the kitchen 24/7. It is a good exercise for both our housekeeping skills and our nafs.
ReplyDeleteWhat did you get out of it? Are you more inclined to cook?
Ummmalaak
For sure not exciting..did you read the article? That's what I was aiming at. Do I feel like cooking more. No, I don't, I feel tired. I don't feel like cooking all the time until the kids are all in school which could take forever with the way I keep going. I think the kids really liked it though except the ones that were having Malaysian food withdrawals. If I had balanced it between Canadian and Malaysian food it would have went over better. It was interesting though to have something to look forward to each morning; making sure I had all the ingredients, thawing the meat etc..yeah I know lame but it regulates your day. What I didn't like about it was how much of a time waster it is. I could have been doing other things and I had to keep asking my kids to take care of the baby which I prefer to do myself (she's 9 months old). Another good thing about it, is you get to test out new recipes. I'll never make the cashew chicken again!
ReplyDeleteASA -- Alhamduilla! I won something.
ReplyDeleteAnd you're right -- not an exciting thing at all. I HATE cooking and so look forward to the nights when hubby works late, cause it means Cereal Supper!
This challenge certainly didn't make me enjoy it any more. Nope...not something that I think I'll ever enjoy doing. Oh well.
I thought that Cashew Chicken was good?
Wa Alaikum Salaam
ReplyDeleteNope the Cashew Chicken only sounds good. My dh can cook Malaysian food way better than that. I think he should write a cookbook! Too bad he never writes anything down..its all in his head.
lol at cereal supper....and whats "dh".....DA HUSBAND? so what do you think the result of this challenge and in terms of everything in that email?
ReplyDeleteDh is dear husband. I think it was a failure. I don't think it helps the marriage at all. Feels like a waste of time to me. I think its the kids that benefit for the most part. So the question is "what do men want?" lol
ReplyDeleteattention, affection, relaxation, peace, inspiration, and belief in them
ReplyDeleteand i like "da husband" better
ReplyDeleteDa husband, lol. Relaxation and peace are not going to be found at our house until the kids leave!
ReplyDeleteUmmMalaak, you're cooking up a storm! Anyone else going to try out? Dh asked me to do it again (cough,cough)...maybe in the distant future, ahem.
ReplyDeleteI love work nights too! Leftover hodge podge, or a can of beans, cereal, eggs. Easy is so nice. I think I have to make a list of easy meals, because tend to forget. Maybe a half time cooking challenge would be good. Maybe ask your kids what they would choose from your recipe stash, and then space it our with da husband's yummy Malaysian food. Or make one or two nights your nights. Wish my husband cooked. My Pakistani neighbor is quite generous, so that makes up for it.
ReplyDeleteThe cooking challenge is not that bad, the most time consuming part (mentally) is the blogging, though I enjoy it. IF you post a cleaning challenge, that would be a challenge!
Now I am going to pop over to Hethr's blog and see what she did.
Yeah I'm already doing this. I do cook once or twice a week (not always from scratch though)on nights my kids have to go out. You know what's weird? I kind of miss cooking...shhh....don't tell. Cleaning...ugh!
