The Faith Club

May is almost here and if you are having trouble finding The Faith Club at your library then why not order it from Amazon? This book is about a Muslim, a Christian and a Jew searching for understanding. There's also a section about how to start your own faith club.

  1. Can we start the comments yet!Ever since I got the book I have been fighting with my self over the Muslim character. I almost put the book back. It really bothers me that she is not a hijabi, that she drinks, and god knows what else she doesn't fulfill as a Muslimah. I am repelled. I am also repelled by my own judgement on her. I would never judge non-muslims this way, or any neighbors, or friends this way. What happens when someone becomes public that I feel like it is ok to harshly judge her? I have no idea. I guess I hope for practicing Muslims to be present in media. Reality is that there are Muslims of all stages out there. I am sorry I feel let down and a bit put off.
I have only read a small bit so far, 12 pages. I will try to keep an open mind so that I can enjoy the dialog between three women getting to know each other. Sigh!

  2. I have the book but haven't started reading it yet. My daughter has a little though and mentioned the same thing as you. I got the impression though that through her discussions she actually started to learn more about her own religion. We shall see.

  3. Alhamdulillah, that gives me hope! : )
Sorry for having such an negative reaction. I always thought I was "open minded". Being "religious" for only a third of my life has been pretty interesting on my outlook.
I look forward to seeing what comes up between these women.

  4. Salaamu alaikum,
How does work, and how do you want us to post? Do you want us to wait until we are done or post as we get to parts we want to discuss? If so where, here, or elsewhere? Is this too much? ; )

  5. Wa Alaikum salaam

I usually do a book review at the end of the month and then you can add comments to that post. That gives everyone a chance to read the book first. Which reminds me that I still have to blog about Turning The Tide from last month.

  6. I've started the book, on page 25. Very interesting so far. Can't wait for the end of the month when we can all discuss it.
