UK-Verbal attacks on Malay Muslims

I found this article in another blog. I've heard a lot about how the English treat muslims in that country but this is the first time I've heard it related to Malays. I'm sad to hear that they are experiencing these problems and hope things will get better but if not then come to Canada to study. I've never heard of anyone from Malaysia being bothered here. I think its related to the economy and the overcrowding and high cost of living there. Whenever English people come here they are dazzled by all the space we have here and the low cost of housing in comparison to back home.

  1. They should move here to Orkney. It's beautiful here. There's a lovely college here. Plus you can study from home via the Open University. This place is much more open-minded about "other" people because these islands have always been at the center of international trade etc. I would love to see Muslims here on our islands. :-)

  3. One of many reasons I left UK. Verbal abuse was an almost daily occurrence (sp?) and I didn't want my kids to grow up with that. We also had nasty thing pushed through the letter slot on the front door, and other unpleasant events. I experienced all that in the south; during my infrequent visits to my home town in the north west I haven't had such problems. But then again my home town is known for attracting eccentrics LOL. I always felt people Up North were much friendler than those Down South, so I was very sad to read that article. Orkney sounds lovely, I have always wanted to see the Highlands and Islands, but travel remains a pipe dream for me...

  4. Asalaamu Alaikum Huda,

That's really sad that the abuse was so bad that it was of the reasons for you to leave your own country. It makes me appreciate my country even more.

  5. Salam,

Just found your blog. It was very nice to hear that you married to a Malaysian, Masya Allah.

I live just 30 minutes away from the new that you post on the link. I live here in north east of england for 3 years now. and had live in different place in UK for 8 years. I do know as well the person in the news.

I ama nikabi and where I live got no muslim at all. Every one of my neighbour is non muslim english, not even a black or other culture and background where I live. Let alone Malaysian. Alhamdulillah, I never encounter with abuse, negative comments and etc, I had kids neighbour come and plan with my kids even though my kids are homeschool. They stay from after school until evening while their parents go to work.

usually if people live around places like the one in the news, where people background are from low income backround, which most are living on benefit, these non muslim usualy just sit around the house doing nothing all day long apart from drinking and drug. They don't just abuse others and rasict, but also can abuse their own elderly people as other rude young people now a days. This is I believe one of the reason we homeschool.

I've been around the place lots os time visiting other Malaysian including the one in the news, but alhamdulillah never encounter any abuse although did heard some stories.

One other things I can say is, there are couple of things need to be look at. Among it is media will always make it look bad. Also lack of integration between muslim community especialy Malaysian who just stay among themselves. Unfortunately. I am always believe that as a muslim, we should not just keep our self to our self but integrate but with in the limit. And also Insya Allah if we look after our amal, Allah will protect us.

I am a nikabi as I said and I have been working with lots of English non Muslim and I am always got treated better by them than muslim themselves. I don't think Malaysian accept nikabi as non muslim here in UK. Alhamdulillah.

  6. Asalaamu Alaikum Ummi,

Glad you found my blog. Interesting that you know the person in the article. I'm happy you are not being affected. I think Malaysians wearing niqab is a really new phenomenon and so is homeschooling. I have two on my blogroll though; Days of Our Lives and Kakchik. You should check out their blogs. I'm also happy to know that the English are mixing with you. My daughters in particular are having a hard time to find non-muslim friends. The boys are more open-minded though.
