Mom Cave

One of the reasons there is a lot of stress in our house is that no one has their own terrritory. We are so cramped together that we have no place to call our own to decompress. Funny because right after thinking about all this I came across an article for a mom cave. This is based on the idea that men have their man caves so we deserve our own space too. Dh has no man cave although he thinks the desk that everyone shares is his space. HomeGoods is having a contest for this, but we don't have that store in Canada, too bad. I can't think of anywhere that I can retreat to. I usually use my bedroom to hide out in though like doing some cake decorating there..I know unbelievable. I also like to write letters there. But there is no desk there so I just use my bed. I feel like a teenager; I used to do my homework on my bed because I had no desk. I did have a desk there once but I replaced it with a shelf. You can store so many more things with a shelf. Being cramped is bad for your mental health and that is why dd2 used to always flee to the library. Do you have a Mom Cave?

  1. oh my, I know what you mean! I usually get cravings for my own territory when we have guests over for a long period of time. My cave becomes bathroom. Crazy, I know. But this is the only place where I can find peace for my mind, thoughts, and just relax. I just sit there, and do nothing, just relaxing... Bedroom is not my choice because anyone can ask and come in to use my mirrow, ask for nail scissors etc, and it is kinda disrespectful to sit in your room when you have your guest in your house. So bathroom is my cave.

  2. lol @ bathroom, sooner or later your guests are going to need to use it though! This might make them go home though right ;) Also not a place you want to stay too long as that is where the shaitan live, yikes!

  3. You are right about bathroom being shaitan's place.I should not be going there just for sitting then... And no, my guests who stay with us long (and when I say long I mean like for week and/or more), will knock the door because they come from long distance-another town, so leaving for their home is not an option ;)...

  4. I work from home and need a place with a door that I can close to shut everyone else out. So alhamdulillah I have a kind-of-cave. It's a room in the basement, which sounds blah, but unlike my old house, this one has a window and I try to plant things in the flowerbed outside that I can see through the window because flowers make me smile. [no flowers for the next few months though!] I have lots of my books in here too, and some pics and nick-nacks that were gifts from my kids, family and friends :-)

  5. Huda that sounds fabulous! Maybe you could get a hanging house plant for the winter months.

  6. unfortunately I have a lethal effect on houseplants, which is why I like outdoor gardening -- they have more of a chance of survival when I leave them alone. A friend just bought me a lovely bunch of flowers :-) but the cat attacked them! so I have to wait for growing season, lol
