Kabul Beauty School- Library pick

I got this book from the library and I was skeptical because my library has mostly let's save the poor little Muslim women books. This book is like this but there is a twist because the author is also saving herself. I wanted to hate this book but it was very interesting and she did show a lot of compassion and understanding. I'm amazed by some of the things she does considering she's Christian. I don't want to give away the story but this is a very interesting book, in a way its like Butterfly Mosque.

She has a second book too. Check out the interview here where she talks about both books.

  1. I actually read this book a few months before my interest in Islam and really enjoyed it. I wanted very much to enjoy The Butterfly Mosque but felt her writing was very naive and very egocentric, not to mention boring! The author of Kabul Beauty School was hilarious! I loved her fiery personality and it shown through in her description of the way she handled things in her situation.

  2. Asalaamu Alaikum Um Dayo

I checked out your blog and saw that you are also in Egypt like the author of Butterfly mosque. Perhaps you could write a more exciting book? I checked my review and saw that I didn't find it boring. http://oldmuslimwomanintheshoe.blogspot.com/2010/09/butterfly-mosque-last-day.html
For sure the author of Kabul Beauty School has a totally different personality and being Muslim always tempers that too. Will you be reading her next book?

  3. Ha ha! I would love to write a more exciting book about living in Egypt. Mine would be....sad. For now anyway...And no, I don't know why I would read her next book. I don't really go for fiction as much as I used to.

  4. I think she switched to fiction to cover up people's identity. I think she got people into trouble the first time.
